INDOBALINEWS – Recent research from the UCLA Goodman-Luskin Microbiome Center revealed that gut bacteria may be a hidden tool for managing stress.

We've all had that “gut feeling”, an instinctive sense that helps us navigate decisions and challenges. But the question is, what if that gut feeling isn’t just intuition? What if it directly influences your mental resilience and stress management?

Quoting from earth.com, Thursday 27 June 2024, it appears the microorganisms living in our digestive system may play a crucial role in our mental well-being, offering a new perspective on managing stress and building resilience.

The concept of the gut-brain connection isn't new. We know our gut sends signals to our brain about hunger, fullness, and even cravings. However, this latest study suggests a deeper relationship, one that impacts our emotional and mental health.

Researchers studied over 100 adults without mental health conditions, measuring their resilience through surveys and MRI scans. They also analyzed stool samples to examine each participant's gut microbiome.

The findings were fascinating. Individuals with higher resilience scores, indicating they were better at handling stress and adversity, also had healthier gut microbiomes.

Their gut bacteria produced chemicals associated with lower inflammation and a stronger gut barrier, which is essential for nutrient absorption and toxin blocking.

“Resilience truly is a whole-body phenomenon that not only affects your brain but also your microbiome and what metabolites that it is producing,” noted the study's senior author, Arpana Gupta.

The researchers believe this connection is due to the gut-brain axis, a two-way communication system between the two. A healthy gut can positively affect brain function, while stress and negative emotions can disrupt the gut microbiome, creating a vicious cycle.***
