INDOBALINEWS - A recent study by the University of California San Diego and the University of California San Francisco indicates that changes in sleep patterns can reveal significant insights about your health. For example, these chronic conditions are diabetes, sleep apnea, and even illnesses like COVID-19.

Your sleep tracker does more than monitor your sleep; it offers crucial insights into your overall health. Sleep patterns encompass how people sleep, including sleep duration, timing, and quality.

These patterns can differ widely between individuals and change over time due to age, lifestyle, and health conditions.

“Sleep monitoring has become widespread with the rise of affordable wearable devices. However, converting sleep data into actionable change remains challenging as diverse factors can cause combinations of sleep parameters to differ both between people and within people over time,” stated the study authors, as quoted from earth.com, Tuesday 25 June 2024.

The researchers analyzed data from 5 million nights of sleep across around 33,000 individuals, identifying five main sleep phenotypes, further categorized into 13 subtypes.

The findings showed that the frequency and manner individuals switch between these sleep phenotypes provide much more information for detecting health conditions than relying solely on a person’s average sleep pattern.

The researchers utilized data from the Oura Ring, a smart ring that tracks sleep, skin temperature, and other metrics, focusing on individuals over several months.
