INDOBALINEWS - COVID-19 (or often dubbed in the media as the coronavirus) has become the world’s main topic as it relentlessly spreads throughout the world. So far, the infections shows no sign of slowing down and WHO predicts about the upcoming second wave in the aftermath of the first one. The impacts of which have certainly been felt by every economic actor, especially those who make their ends meet in the tourism industry.
Moving on, in regards to Bali, Bali is a province in Indonesia which depends upon tourism for their annual GDP (Growth Domestic Product) with up to 80% of their annual GDP coming from tourism related industries. As such, in the midst of this raging pandemic in Indonesia, Bali’s become one of the several hard hit provinces in Indonesia (economic-wise). For example, the turtle-like recent growth rate in GDP experienced in Bali has been cited by economists as “near recession” level.
That’s not to say that Bali is “free” from coronavirus. With up to 2.500 cases with more in sight, Bali is not safe for business for now unlike what’s claimed in a May conference with Joko Widodo. Previously, the Balinese provincial government believed rather optimistically that Bali would be open for business in July. That’s not to say the government considered the travel warning or restriction from other countries in regards to travel to Bali, or other parts of Indonesia currently facing the danger of coronavirus.

So, now that we’ve gotten the full picture, what’s the future of tourism in Bali in the aftermath of the epidemic? Should Bali be safe or “free” from the coronavirus in the near-future, the people of Bali must expect a decrease of tourist influx unlike what’s expected in the pre-epidemic era. Not only that, but the time for Bali to consider other alternatives will have come by then as tourism, as proven during this pandemic, is volatile to changes.
That’s not the end of tourism, however, in spite of darkened assumptions of its future in Bali. More or less, tourism industries have been more critical towards the vulnerability of tourism to pandemic (and in spreading the pandemic too) that a patch-up solution was made, in the form of solo travelling.

What’s solo travelling? Solo travelling, as indicated by the name itself, is travelling conducted by a single person only. Notwithstanding the instant definition, citing an article made by wiki travel, solo travelling is a form of unique travelling that provides a unique reward and experience to those who do it. Not only that, but solo travelling also often done by adventurers, researchers, and journalists in the past. Since there happens to be a pandemic raging in both Bali and Indonesia, the authorities shouldn’t risk travelling in a group more than 1 (or 2, in severely impacted areas) lest they become infected and spread the virus unknowingly. That’s where solo travelling comes to the picture.
